The Resiliency of the Jacksonville Region

Businesses across the Jacksonville region are working diligently to roll out plans to get employees back to work following “safer at home” measures enacted within the United States. And while the challenges and solutions are unique and nuanced for each business or organization, across every sector; from health care to fintech; advanced manufacturing to logistics, the goal is the same: to bring employees safely back to work. With the backdrop of COVID-19, there is no doubt of our region’s resiliency as we witness ingenuity, problem solving and a can-do attitude rising to the top of the most desired traits sought out by our employers and employees alike.

One organization in Jacksonville, CareerSource Northeast Florida, has offerings in high demand. As a publicly funded agency that provides work-related services in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties, CareerSource functions to connect workers to jobs and businesses, offering education, training and career services. In order to continue to make their services available for jobseekers and employers, CareerSource opened several satellite centers to prevent overcrowding and accommodate any surge in demand. The agency has three satellite locations open; in St. Johns County, Clay County and Duval County and, in addition to expanding its Duval satellite location at the Gateway Career Center on Jacksonville’s Northside, they are also opening another in Putnam County at St. Johns River State College.

 

While the market has faced myriad challenges, there are jobs available in Northeast Florida and there are employers who are actively looking to fill positions. Interestingly, consumer confidence edged higher in May after two months of declines as businesses reopen.  In addition, Florida consumer confidence was the 

11th highest in the country adding to the attainable optimism of a strong recovery.

 

Despite unforeseen circumstances, many business and talent across the region are poised to get back to work. It is the diverse “business-scape” that is matched with top talent and a growth-oriented mindset that has helped the region to fair as well as it has. With each passing day, there are new challenges to be faced but the Jacksonville area is home to many companies who are, indeed, open for business.
